About gita
Gita Srinivasan is a professional cellist based in Chicago whose musical career has taken her from orchestral stages and chamber music ensembles to classrooms, international tours, and intimate performances. A native of Maysville, Kentucky, Gita began studying cello at the age of eleven and has since developed into a versatile and accomplished performer.
In 2025, Gita earned a Post-Master's Certificate of Performance from DePaul University, where she studied under Stephen Balderston and particularly enjoyed performing Baroque ensemble and classical chamber music. She previously earned a master's degree from Illinois State University, where she served as principal cellist of the ISU Symphony Orchestra for two years and was recognized as an ISU Graduate Merit Fellow.
Gita also holds an undergraduate degree in music from Northern Kentucky University, where she made her solo debut with the NKU Philharmonic Orchestra after winning the university's concerto competition. Her performance experience includes orchestral, chamber, solo, and international performances, including tours throughout Europe and Ireland.
Alongside her performing career, Gita is passionate about music education and has taught cello students of all ages through university preparatory programs, string education initiatives, and community arts programs. This combination of performance excellence and teaching experience gives her a thoughtful and expressive approach to every musical setting.
Based in Chicago, Illinois, Gita performs throughout the city, surrounding suburbs, and beyond. As a collaborative artist with Mose Music & Events, she is proud to be part of a curated roster of professional musicians dedicated to creating exceptional live music experiences for weddings and special events.
